Hello blog! It is Tuesday and I am already swamped with due dates and responsibilities. I am writing this post to get my mind off of things aka to procrastinate.
But before we time travel to the day the shoot here's a little behind the scenes take on the making of this shoot.

As soon as classes started about a month ago I fell in love with a pink building I drove by almost everyday. My mind buzzed with the idea of shooting in such an attractive location. I was infatuated with the possibilities that pale pink wall gifted me. I knew wanted to do a shoot that would be on the topic of girl power, hence the title of this post. But I didn't want my photos to come off as obvious or clique. Lately the idea of the solidarity of women has inspired me to be in creative mode 24/7.  As women, we must stick together because most of the time, the world is already against us. To avoid making this post too political I will not go into detail as to why or how this world is against us but in the words of DJ Khaled: "They don't want us to succeed". Women are often painted as objects. Petty, selfish, whiny, insecure and downright evil human beings when in fact this is not the case. It is very rare that I meet a woman who does not radiate pure bliss.
Being surrounded by women who are filled with endless amounts of joy is such an empowering feeling.

Now, let's time travel together back to last Saturday, September 10th.

This idea of womanhood was the inspiration for this shoot. I planned and procrastinated this shoot for too long until one day I woke up and said "I'm going to do this". I had never shot a group under these conditions; only two of these girls knew each other and neither four of them have never meet one another in such a setting.
The bouquets were a blessing. I was able to catch the woman at the farmers market right before she packed up her station for the day.
The pre-fall heat was disguised but not forgotten as we stood in the parking lot of The Artery.
I was nervous. I didn't have any idea of how this would turn out. All I had was a mood board, big expectations and a whole lotta faith.

I picked four of my favorite girls, gave them their bouquets and let their instinct do the rest. And what happened that day was truly magical.
I could talk for hours about Summer's relentless humor, Alicia's infectious laugh, Arianna's delicate smile or Olivia's boldness. But I digress.
Saturday was the epitome of girl power and for a nervous photographer is was a snapshot of reassurance. Within seconds these girls found similarities between themselves. They found ways to squeal and giggle among themselves. Ways to help each other feel comfortable while a crazy photographer pointed a camera in their faces whilst directing their every move. Within minutes my fears dissipated.  Within and hour this shoot turned into a giant love fest. And that my friends, is what girl power is all about. Empowering, comforting, and enjoying one another by embracing our differences.

So here's to women hood: Where we love, encourage and support each other despite age, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. Where no difference is too big and no similarity to small. Together we stand strong, joyful, and radiant.

I hope all you women feel empowered today to live with no sorrows or worries. I hope then men reading this also feel empowered by the beauty of the unity of women. I hope you all continue to live a joyous life and I thank you for allowing me to share my experiences with you all.

Until next time xx
