Hello blog!

As a photographer, I feel that driving is almost 5 times more dangerous when compared to someone who isn't a photographer. While I'm driving, I am constantly getting distracted by potential photoshoot locations. Often times I will go back and drive up and down the same road multiple times just to get a good look at the location. Although this is potentially dangerous, I love having this state of mind while driving. I've lived in the same city my whole life, so being able to envision, for example, the old factory building I pass by every day, into a unique photoshoot location is really reassuring. It's a creative way to remind myself that I need to be continually exercising my creative mind.

So, can you guess how I found this shoot's photo location?

I finally got the guts to pull over and shoot at a building I drive by every day on my way to school. I was always drawn to the building's minimalist architecture and color blocked exterior. Besides, there were almost never any cars parked in the lot. The building looked completely run down and if I'm being honest, very ugly. From the appearance, I assumed that the building was abandoned.

...pssst
Want to see how we found out that this building wasn't actually abandoned? Click the link above to watch to the behind the scenes video from the shoot!

Not only did I take a swig of courage on the location decision, I also decided to collaborate with makeup artist Adrienne (@impactartistrymua), and I couldn't have been happier with the results. Adrienne's makeup skills paired with Sandra's (model/@sandrastirrup) natural beauty, the shoot was a big hit! Shoutout to Alicia for being the most reliant assistant I could ever dream of. I don't think I have ever had the opportunity to shoot with girls who were so down to earth and quirky. I also think this was the most relaxed session I have had. Sandra is seriously a natural in front of the camera. I rarely had to direct her, she came ready to serve some serious looks!! I apologize for the pop culture reference mom, "serving looks" means that she was fierce like Beyonce. Oh, and you know my signature pose? The one where the model looks like their kicking the camera? Yeah, well this girl just started kicking! I mean straight up karate and dance moves. I lowkey wish my leg could go up that high...

Likewise, this shoot was filled with giggles, screams, funny stories, and a strange encounter with a random man who "worked" at the building we were shooting(??). Check out the behind the scenes video for a little bit more context on that last part.

It was a true pleasure to be able to create this amazing shoot with these amazing girls.  I couldn't have thought of a better team to share this shoot with.
