Happy Saturday! It's a horribly cold day here in North Carolina and I'm writing this blog post in hopes of distracting myself from this boring 3 hour car ride. Let's rewind to Thursday. An equally cold day, but filled with a lot more excitement.
Let's talk location: Downtown High Point. This tiny bustling city is not only the furniture capital of the world, but it is also home to one of my first photoshoots 2 years ago. Yup, let that sink in a little bit.
The nostalgia was unbearable but there's nothing like replacing an old and fading memory with a new and vibrant one.
Let's talk details:
I love working with new models, especially when they are as friendly as CJ was this Thursday. He was a real trooper, as he ditched his jacket during most of this shoot while I shot comfortably in my oversized fur coat and wool scarf. But before you start getting too jealous of my warmth that day, let's reminisce on the fact that I got an intense plastic cut.  How did I manage to do this to myself? I have absolutely no idea. While I was handing CJ my photo contract, yah know, trying to be professional with my cheap plastic folder from Staples or whatever, I guess one of the corners of the folder cut deep into my thumb. My hand was covered in blood throughout the whole shoot.
Let's do some math:
A deep cut + no bandaid + freezing cold temperatures + windchill +  having to keep cleaning my thumb with my, uh, mouth = a very anxious photographer trying to comprehend why fate was out to get her that day. Keep in mind, I have never met CJ in person before this day, so as you can imagine my first impression was great!!! I have an ongoing inside joke with everyone I've worked with that goes along the lines of "It's not a photoshoot if no one gets hurt!" Ironically, I'm always the one to get hurt. Nevertheless I managed to embarrass myself in other ways such as almost falling (twice), getting stuck on branches, constantly having to stand on my tippy toes and hold my balance before snapping the shutter (oh the lovely perks of being 5'2 and shooting a basketball player), and almost getting hit by a semi truck. Just a typical Alycee Byrd photoshoot if you ask me.
Sarcasm aside, this shoot can go down in the books as a complete success! Thankfully my antics were taken lightly by CJ. I'm still not over the fact that he was jacket-less 95% of the time during the shoot and seemed completely unfazed by the weather. I swear he is a natural at decoding my photography lingo, because I would give a horribly worded instruction, because distractions, and he knew exactly what I meant. Either that or he's just really good at ignoring me and doing his own thing.
I'm so stoked about how these photos turned out, this is definitely going on my list of my Top 5 Favorite Shoots of 2016.
The photos that were created Thursday made running around town in freezing temperatures worth it!

No shoot is complete without a squad pic:

Also, BIG shoutout and thank you to Arianna for being the funniest social media manager/photography assistant!

Thanks for reading, until next time!
