Hello blog!
This year, for me, is all about trying new things. New ideas, new projects, new people, new equipment, new styles. I want to expand my range as a photographer and break my bad habit of never stepping outside of the box. So here’s to the new.
We all know that I’m no stranger to a collaboration, so that part of all of this is not new. Destiny I teamed up (again) and put our skills to the test. Today Destiny (@destinylawphoto) and I shoot like photographer Jessica Kobeissi (@jessicakobeissi.). We both love Jessica’s bold color grading, attention grabbing composition, and the way she captures movement. Needless to say, we take a lot of inspiration from her work. Jessica is currently doing a series on her youtube channel where she shoots in the style of some of her favorite photographers, so naturally, Destiny and I took this as yet another opportunity to do another kick-butt collaboration.
So what do you all think? Did we nail Jessica’s style?

Today’s team consisted of:
The lovely and incredibly stylish, stylist, Emma (@tinyyem)! I not kidding when I saw I am a literal fan of this girl. I feel in love with her style right after I saw Destiny's killer fashion feature session with her. Emma nailed Jessica's styling PERECTLY. I mean, in pretty sure we all squealed after we saw Shira in the outfits. Emma is a true fashion icon.
and
The beautiful Shira (@shiraaa.g)! Once we told Shira the concept she would be modeling she was ecstatic! Funny enough, she is also a Jessica Kobessi fan, so that made this shoot even better. Shira is the most humble and passionate model I think I've had the honor to work with. Her demeanor and class pairs wonderfully with her soft voice and beaming smile. Working with such a talented girl made this shoot a walk in the park. Thank you Shira for joining us on this little project!
Now, I have never necessarily shot in the style of another photographer before. Taken inspiration from? Sure. But trying to imagine and recreate the creative process of a photographer I have never met? This was a whole new challenge. There is so much that goes behind a photo beyond pressing the shutter and every photographer has their own method. Having to recondition my brain as to whole I thought Jessica would pose, compose, and edit a photo was something I had a lot of trouble with. Destiny and I laughed constantly how, mid-shoot, we would realize that we were shoot in our personal style as opposed to Jessica’s. But we both agreed that we wanted to shoot in Jessica's style while still maintaining our personal brand and stylistic elements. However, it was still difficult trying to replicate another artist's "look". But I can't complain too much, after all, a challenge is all about..well the challenge...obviously *looks into the camera like a character from ‘The Office’*.
