Hello blog!

Today's shoot features the lovely and the very personable Ashley Blair (@ashleysblair) of 3 Black Bird Management (@3blackbirdmanagement). My vision for this shoot was for it to have a very feminine and relaxed mood. I wanted the styling to hone on the neutral tones of the location while using Ashley'naturally soft features to our advantage. Thank you, Ashlyn Noto (@ashlyn.notomua), for being able to capture all of this and more with your makeup expertise. What I loved the most about this shoot was that Ashley fit perfectly into the idealized mood. She really embodied the level of poise needed for this shoot.

By a simple google search of "sayings about things not going to plan", you can get a general impression that most things don't go as planned. No matter how much time you put into organizing and developing an idea, or in this case a photoshoot, you can never account for the unexpected.

Can you see where I'm going with this?

Our original field was beautiful and full. It was a butterfly field that was thriving on the tall grass-like plants that inhabited the open space. I am one to location scout, so I made sure I went to check out this location before arranging this shoot. I have photos and videos of the location and knew exactly where I wanted to shoot. However, when I woke up this morning I knew something was wrong. My gut was telling me that I needed to be prepared for the unexpected today. Either way I got up, got ready, and headed to the shoot whilst trying to shake this uneasy feeling.

But once we arrived at the location, my fears were personified. The precious and luscious field was MOWED. All of it was gone. Nothing left but the brave roots that could not be bothered. But of course, we obviously still used the location. Mainly we went on the walking trail to use the little reminiscence of the grass that was left. Part of me wanted to get discouraged by this, but once I started shooting, there was no room for negative thoughts. And if this field didn't get mowed down, we wouldn't have been able to get the amazing shots we did. We were running and laughing and shooting all at once, something I don't think the past location would have enabled (mainly the running part).

Moral of today's shoot: take the cards you've been dealt and use them to your advantage.
